Many people in Douglas South have told us that caring for the beauty of our island is essential. Many people love our green spaces, and our campaign for Douglas South is the leading environmental campaign for a few different reasons:

a) Ours is the first (and only!) campaign to make a clear manifesto pledge to oppose ALL drilling, mining and fracking for ALL fossil fuels in both the Isle of Man AND territorial waters. We will oppose all fossil fuel extraction in the Isle of Man. No weasel words.

b) We have a series of costed, achievable, plans to connect Douglas South with central Douglas via safe and secure cycle tracks through the Nunnery.

c) We have a clear commitment to improve the environment by supporting the construction of new, environmentally-conscious, housing in central Douglas, instead of continued urban sprawl on the edge (with all the cars, parking problems and environmental damage that would come with such sprawl).

d) We will be a strong voice for all domestic electricity users to be able to have the choice of switching to renewable electricity, in the same way that current businesses can opt for renewable “green” tariffs.

e) We were – and will remain – a strong voice to oppose the Isle of Man Government’s proposal to change the law to import grey partridges and shoot them.

Then there are various other key achievable policies on pages 9/10 in our Douglas South manifesto online here.

Finally, our campaign has led by example: our campaign has used 100% recycled paper so far to date. That said, we weren’t able to find a place to get our manifesto printed on 100% recycled paper on-island, so had to settle for 100% FSC certified paper with the manifesto printing and distribution. Further, this website is hosted on 100% carbon neutral web servers based here in the Isle of Man.
