Fitzrovia in inner London is home to a great range of interesting and fun restaurants, many with interesting gimmicks and efforts to distinguish themselves from the crowd. Mac and Wild is building a strong reputation as being based upon more than just a gimmick, but rather, demonstrates a comprehensive to sustainably reared and produced Scottish produce. Each menu features a map of Scotland, showing where various ingredients have come from, such as Angus beef from the south, and Venison from the east. This combination of different Scottish regions, and different Scottish meats, combines to produce their Veni-Moo burger.

This £11.50 burger features a combination of meat from two different animals – venison (“Veni”) and beef (“Moo”), which is fun and interesting – but with a slightly lower fat content than a truly great beef burger such as at Bleecker St. Along with the pair of patties is a couple of slices of cheese, and plenty of caramelised onions which add enough sweetness. The patties are both quite decently sized, and, partly due to excessively restrictive Government regulations, are cooked a little bit more than I would like, leading to a burger that remains excellent, but not outstanding, due to it being just a little too dry to achieve a higher rating. Sides at Mac and Wild are also fun: Haggis Mac and Cheese is wonderfully creamy with some Haggis added to maintain the Scottish theme, and the deserts continue the strong and Scottish flavours.
