The number of school suspensions for physical assaults at Isle of Man secondary schools has dropped significantly from 2017 to 2019, according to data released under Freedom of Information protections.
The reduction was most pronounced at St Ninian’s, where there were 53 occasions of students getting suspended for physical assaults in 2017 falling to just 16 occasions in 2019.
Ballakermeen High School saw a smaller reduction, from 48 suspensions in 2017, to 43 suspensions in 2018, to 38 suspensions in 2017.
Each suspension was for a variable length, from 0.5 days to 10 days.
