Thinking about travel in 2023? The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has recently published an accessible and easy overview of some historical sites that I think are worth visiting.

I hired a car back in early 2017 and visited many of these places by myself, it was outstanding and peaceful and moving – especially in the context of World War 1 being entirely eliminated from living human memory, and in the context of World War 2 being on the verge of passing from living human memory.

Visiting memorials to fallen soldiers can be a deeply moving and meaningful experience for many people. These memorials serve as a way to honour and remember the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to their country.

One of the main reasons that it is good to visit these memorials is that they provide a sense of appreciation for the sacrifices that have been made by these individuals. By visiting these sites, we can take a moment to reflect on the bravery and selflessness of these soldiers and the tremendous impact that they have had on our country.

Another reason to visit these memorials is that they can serve as a way to educate and inform the public about the history of our country and the sacrifices that have been made to protect our freedoms. All of the memorials listed in the CWGC guide linked above include information about the wars and conflicts in which the fallen soldiers served, as well as details about their lives and the circumstances of their deaths.

Additionally, visiting these memorials can be a way to connect with others who have lost loved ones in military service. By paying tribute to these fallen soldiers, we can offer support and comfort to those who have been directly impacted by their loss.

Overall, visiting memorials to fallen soldiers can be a powerful and meaningful experience that helps us to appreciate the sacrifices that have been made by these brave individuals and to honour their memory.
