The Co-op is seeking a local Manx community partner to establish a local community fridge on the Isle of Man. A Community Fridge is a social space that brings people together to eat, connect, learn new skills and reduce food waste.
The Co-op is working with Hubbub to coordinate the world’s largest Community Fridge Network with a whopping 250 Community Fridges now running across the UK. We’re seeking to double the network by funding a further 250 new fridges, which will save a total of 34 million meals from going to waste annually across the network of 500 fridges. We hope to find at least one Manx community partner to expand the community fridge network to the Isle of Man.
“This is a great opportunity for a local group to increase services to our local community, and to benefit from the leadership and guidance from the UK’s leading community fridge network,” said Andy Corrie, Area Manager for the Manx Co-operative Society.
The successful group will receive £4,000 in direct financial funding, support & training to set up a fridge, and membership to Hubbub’s Community Fridge Network which operates community fridges across these Isles. The Community Fridge Network offers free guidance to groups wanting to set up their own community fridge, and provides comprehensive support, design assets, peer support, health and safety templates as well as discounted fridges and freezers!
Local groups who wish to apply must apply by the end of January online here: https://co-operate.coop.co.uk/apply-for-funding-to-set-up-a-fridge/
